Good statistics and teenage drivers do not go very well as of today. Sixteen year-old drivers are involved in accidents six times more frequent than those who are between 30 and 59. When talking about car insurance, this translates to very high premiums if you belong to the age group. That is just the reality when it comes to car insurance: the higher your risk, the higher you have to shoulder for the premiums.

Although the picture may seem very dim, the good news is that there are still car insurance companies that see the bright light. There are still auto insurance firms ready to give some good discounts for teenagers.

Here are some suggestions on how you can keep those car insurance premiums low:

Help the young driver be familiar with driving laws

The best way to keep the premiums low will be to keep the driving records of teenagers clean. Equip them with the knowledge. Teach them about the road signs and the driving laws of your state or your country.  Insist that they follow them.

    Be a good example

Do what you want your kids to do on the road. That means no tailgating, no beating the red light, and you following the road signs yourself. Keep a watch of how you behave on the road so you can be a good lead for your teenage drivers.

teen-driver-femaleNow that we have talked a few of the things that you should be teaching your teenage driver, let’s go ahead and dive on into some of the other things that you need to teach them.  For example – buckling up is not only because of the law but also because of safety.

Honestly, you will need to stress the importance of buckling up to your teenage just to make sure that they know that it is not only to obey the law but it is for their safety.

Next, obeying the speed limit is going to be the biggest downfall for your teenage driver.  So make sure that you really stress how important it is for your young driver to follow along with the speed limits that are set by the government.

teen-driverWhile insuring a teenager is going to be one of the hardest things in the world … simply because of the price, did you know that there are a ton of different things that you can actually teach your teenage driver in order to make them not only a better driver, but so that you can put your mind at ease as well?  That is what we are going to talk about in the next few blogs!

The first thing that you need to teach your teen driver is how to drive defensively.  To be completely honestly, teenage drivers are going to be inexperienced, no matter how long they have been driving, so you want to make sure that you teach them everything from using the indicators all the way to avoiding tailgating other drivers.  That way you know that they are going to be safe.

Next, you want to limit the distractions that are going to be around your teenage driver.  Cell phones, radio, CD, or even having a lot of passengers in their car are all things that can distract the young driver. Keep that in mind whenever you are dealing with teenagers – stay tuned for more!
